This unique ‘Kochiku’ or ‘Old Bamboo’ Chashaku (scoop) has been hand crafted by Master Craftsman Tango Tanimura.
It is designed for the Enshu-ryu school of Tea ceremony and features a distinctive squared tip, but can be used by anyone to measure the desired amount of Matcha powder.
It is made from ‘Susudake’ bamboo that has been exposed to a fireplace or hearth in a traditional Japanese home to produce it’s unique colour and markings. This colouration process can take over many decades, and even hundreds of years. It is becoming more rare as these traditional homes become more scarce.
Kochiku Chashaku are lighter and have more varied markings as they are made from bamboo that usually makes the walls surrounding the fireplace. They differ slightly from our Susudake Chashaku, which are from the roof over the fireplace and are generally darker.
*Please note: as this is a natural product, colour & markings may differ slightly to the product pictured
