Futaoki SUSUDAKE (Ladle Rest) 1 – Tango Tanimura

Futaoki, or ladle rests, are one of the essential tools required for practising the tea ceremony. They are designed as a rest for a ‘Hishaku’ (ladle) to rest on.

These particular Futaoki are hand crafted by Artisan Tango Tanimura and come as a pair Furo and Ro. They are both made of ‘Susudake’ bamboo that has been exposed over a fireplace or hearth in a traditional Japanese home to produce its unique colour and markings.

This colouration process can take over one hundred years, and even hundreds of years. It is becoming more rare as these traditional homes become more scarce.
