This 70 prong Shin Kazuho Chasen has been hand sculpted by 20th generation Master Bamboo Whisk Craftsman Tango Tanimura.

It is made of antique Susudake bamboo that has been exposed over a fireplace or hearth in a traditional Japanese home to produce it’s unique colour and markings.

This colouration process can take many decades, even a hundred or more years. It is becoming more rare as these traditional homes become more scarce.

The right size, thickness and part of the bamboo required to produce a Chasen is even more scarce. This type of bamboo is tricky to work with and requires refined skills from a master craftsman, making this an extra special implement.

It is designed for use by the Omotesenke Tea School, but is a good all purpose Chasen for anyone who would like an extra special utensil for preparing matcha tea.

*Please note: it is the exact product pictured.

**The bamboo is antique from old Japanese houses and may display some markings or imperfections. This is the nature of the product.
