This 70 prong Chasen has been hand made by 20th generation Master Bamboo Whisk Craftsman Tango Tanimura. His family’s history of crafting Chasen even predates the famous Sen no-Rikyu, renowned as father of the three major Japanese tea schools.
Sculpted from white Hachiku bamboo that has been seasoned for around 3 years, this beautiful implement is ideal for those practicing the Urasenke style of tea ceremony, or as an excellent all purpose Chasen.

Excellent all purpose chasen, nice narrow handle is good for smaller bowls.

Fantastic chasen, it’s light and easy to grasp, and creates an excellent foam on the matcha tea with less effort than my previous chasen.

Nice Shin Kazuho Chasen. Thank you.

I bought this tea whisk to use as a daily chasen to make my matcha time a little bit more special. This has 72-prongs, which can be used to make usucha (thin tea) or koicha (thick tea).
This is the white bamboo version of the black bamboo Shin Kazuho, which was hand made by master craftsman Tango Tanimura. The handle is thinner than the typical 80-prong standard design chasen, which has a thicker handle.
It effortlessly whisks the matcha into a fine and even froth for usucha (thin tea). One can tell that it is made with the best quality bamboo by simply handling it and using it to make matcha.
The white bamboo chasen is both simple and elegant. Even though it is not as rare as it’s black bamboo version, it still elicits awe from tea practitioners and connoisseurs alike.
I highly recommend this chasen!
