Tea Caddy KISEN 波 Wave Smoke Gray – Gato Mikio
$214
This striking hand crafted tea caddy is made from from Japanese Zelkova Elm, and finished with lacquer in a unique smoke gray colour.
The Japanese word KISEN describes the natural annual growth rings of trees. These growth rings are highlighted with expert craftsmanship by using one block of Zelkova elmwood such that the natural patterns of the wood flow from the container to the lid.
As much a container for tea, these are beautiful artistic objects that allow you to appreciate the true beauty of natural wood.
It is made in Yamanaka Japan by Gato Mikio, a family run craft studio with over 100 years of history, using traditional and highly technical wood turning techniques.
*Please note: as this is a natural product, colour & wood grain markings may differ slightly to the product pictured
Holds approximately 60-70g of tea (Sencha or similar)
Size: Height 110mm / Diameter 80mm

Here we again, GATO MIKIO-san. Now this is real piece of art. Above my all other purchases. Looks exactly as on the picture. Once I will make sure the capacity is OK for me, I will perhaps also purchase the other ones with the different design. Expensive but well worth it. I like it has two lids, the one “internal” which pushes the air out. I did not expect the tree-ring of the lid and body to match. But hey, they do (off just by half a millimeter to nitpick). The craftsmanship is amazing.
When arrived the smell was pretty neutral although not totally neutral, probably smell of the wood used. Seems like over time it will gain smell of the used for.
I was not sure how to clean it before I put tea in there. I just cleaned it with hot water, dried immediatlly. Seems to do the trick. I did not want to use any soap or anything.
