Teapot Kyusu SHI-GOU 四号 Vermillion – Jinsui Tokoname

This beautiful Kyusu teapot is hand crafted by Jinsui, a historic pottery maker based in Tokoname, one of 6 ancient and famous kilns in Japan.

Jinsui is revolutionising the traditional pottery industry in Japan. Its 4th generation owner and all women staff have an average age in their 40’s. Their modern design and methods are breathing new life into a rigid industry, whilst still retaining traditional skills and quality.

This classic vermillion clay teapot is one of their more traditional styles and is ideal for brewing green teas. It features a fine stainless steel mesh filter, so it’s especially good for teas with delicate or small leaves.

The vibrant vermillion colour is a result of a brick-red clay that is high in iron called Shudei. It is famous in the Tokoname region, and the iron in the clay is said to give green tea a mellower taste.
